MARCOS VALLE – MARCOS VALLE (LP, 2025 VAMPISOUL REISSUE)
- Long-awaited 180g reissue of Marcos Valle’s 1970 self-titled psychedelic MPB masterpiece
- Includes the iconic “Ele E Ela” (sampled by Jay-Z)
Description
Originally released in 1970, Marcos Valle marks one of the artist’s most creative and genre-defying phases, capturing his transition from second-wave bossa nova star to psychedelic MPB innovator. Known for its instantly recognizable artwork featuring Valle reclined on a bed, the album mixes samba, soul, jazz, rock, and Northeastern Brazilian rhythms into a brilliantly eclectic whole.
Joined by musicians from the Minas scene, including Novelli (bass), Nelson Angelo (guitar), and Vagner Chizo (keys), Valle embraces rich instrumentation and surprising arrangements. The track “Ele E Ela” later became widely recognized through Jay-Z’s sample on “Thank You,” while “Freio Aerodinâmico” showcases Valle’s experimental side with scatting and syncopated grooves.
This is the first reissue since the 2013 Light in the Attic edition — an essential return for one of the boldest albums of Valle’s career and a key document of Brazil’s late '60s/early '70s countercultural sound.
